Dr. Christian Pflueger is a Research Fellow at the School of Molecular Sciences, The University of Western Australia, and affiliated with the ARC Centre for Plant Energy Biology. He holds a PhD from the University of Utah (2015), specializing in epigenetic changes during germ cell maturation. His expertise spans epigenomic profiling, bioinformatics data analysis, and CRISPR-based tools development. He has secured over $540,000 in research grants, including from the RAINE Foundation and Cancer Council WA. Dr. Pflueger has published 9 peer-reviewed articles, including work in Genome Research, and his tools have been requested by over 180 labs globally.
Research Interests: Epigenetics, DNA methylation, CRISPR technologies, cancer epigenomics, and NK cell therapy. His current projects focus on developing epigenetic tools and understanding mechanisms of epigenetic changes in disease contexts. He collaborates with Telethon Kids Institute, Royal Perth Hospital, and other Australian institutions.
Awards: HPI Academic Staff Recognition Award (2019) for community fundraising efforts.
Teaching & Supervision: Lectures postgraduate courses in cancer epigenomics and biotechnology. Supervised 3 PhD, 3 Master’s students, and volunteers. Active in thesis examinations and student mentorship.
Community Engagement: Fundraised over $5k for the Harry Perkins Institute and participates in scientific committees (e.g., ASBMB, Science on the Swan).
