Christian Pfeiffer is an Associate Professor and Associate Chair, Graduate in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC). He holds a Dr. Phil. (scl) from Humboldt University Berlin and previously held positions at Ludwig-Maximilians University Munich and Humboldt University Berlin. His research focuses on ancient philosophy (particularly Aristotle), contemporary metaphysics, and topics like hylomorphism, essence, and mereotopology. He recently authored Aristotle’s Theory of Bodies (Oxford University Press, 2018), exploring Aristotle’s concepts of body, space, and continuity.
Current projects include a monograph on Aristotle’s Metaphysics H and articles on hylomorphism. He has also contributed to volumes on Aristotelian studies, 19th-century philosophy, and medieval interpretations of Aristotle. Pfeiffer co-edits the Philosophical Studies in Ancient Thought series and teaches courses on ancient philosophy at UTSC.
