معرفی
Christian M. Becker is Professor of Reproductive Sciences at the University of Oxford and Co-Director of the Oxford Endometriosis CaRe Centre. He serves as Principal Investigator and Consultant Gynaecologist & Subspecialist in Reproductive Medicine at the Nuffield Department of Women's and Reproductive Health. As Clinical Lead for the Oxford BSGE Endometriosis Centre, he oversees Endometriosis, Pelvic Pain, Infertility and Adolescent Gynaecology Services at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Dr. Becker completed his MD at Freie Universität Berlin in 1998 after undergraduate training at Semmelweis University in Budapest. He completed his residency in obstetrics and gynaecology at Charité Berlin, receiving full registration in 2003. He spent five years as a postdoctoral fellow at Children's Hospital and Brigham and Women's Hospital Harvard Medical School in Boston, working under Judah Folkman on angiogenesis and antiangiogenic therapy.
His research focuses on women's health, particularly endometriosis, a common condition associated with abdominal pain and subfertility. He co-directs the Oxford Endometriosis CaRe Centre, which combines clinical care with research on endometriosis, adenomyosis, PCOS, and uterine fibroids. His work includes identifying biomarkers, improving endometriosis categorization, and discovering novel management approaches. Current clinical studies include the FENOX Study (biorepository), DETECT Study (imaging technique), and FEMaLe Study (machine learning for diagnosis).
His recent publications (2024-2025) demonstrate a strong focus on molecular mechanisms of gynecological conditions, particularly endometriosis and uterine fibroids, using advanced techniques like single-cell analysis, spatial transcriptomics, and metabolomics. His work bridges basic science with clinical applications, addressing both diagnostic challenges and therapeutic innovations in reproductive medicine.
- Chairperson of the ESHRE Guideline Development Group for Management of Women with Endometriosis
- Member of the NICE Guideline Committee for Endometriosis
As Clinical Lead for the Oxford BSGE Endometriosis Centre, one of the UK's largest tertiary referral centers, he works with a dedicated team of nurses, doctors, and administrators. He is part of the Children and Young Adult Tissue Preservation Team, helping cancer patients preserve fertility. His research is supported by EU Horizon funding, NIHR Oxford Biomedical Research Centre, and industry collaborations. The Endometriosis CaRe Centre, which he co-founded in 2013 with Prof Krina Zondervan, relies on biological samples and clinical data donated by patients for translational research.
His laboratory work focuses on improving the genetic and molecular understanding of gynecological conditions, with particular emphasis on developing more individualized management approaches for patients. The CaRe Centre serves as both a clinical service provider and research hub, creating a unique integration of patient care and scientific investigation in reproductive medicine.
