Christian Krattenthaler is a Professor of Discrete Mathematics at the University of Vienna since 2005. Previously, he held a professorship at Université Claude Bernard, Lyon (2002–2005) and visiting positions at the University of California, San Diego (1994, 1998). He is a corresponding member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (since 2004) and has been actively involved in research networks and editorial leadership in combinatorics and discrete mathematics.
- PhD in Mathematics (1984) under J. Cigler
- Habilitation in Mathematics (University of Vienna, 1989)
His research spans Enumerative and Algebraic Combinatorics, Number Theory, Special Functions, and computational mathematics, particularly via contributions to the HYP and HYPQ Mathematica packages. He has coordinated the European Research Training Network "Algebraic Combinatorics in Europe" (2002–2005) and contributed to the Askey-Bateman Project for the Handbook of Special Functions.

Editorial leadership includes Editor-in-Chief of the Séminaire Lotharingien de Combinatoire and Managing Editor for Discrete Mathematics and Theoretical Computer Science. He has also served on editorial boards of journals such as aequationes mathematicae, Journal of Combinatorial Theory - Series A, and The Ramanujan Journal.
