Christian Jany

Christian Jany is a Lecturer at the Department of Humanities, Social and Political Sciences at ETH Zurich. He has been associated with the Chair for Literature and Cultural Studies since 2015, transitioning from postdoctoral researcher to senior assistant in 2021. He was also an affiliated member of the Center for the History of Knowledge until its closure in 2021.

• Research focuses on aesthetic theories, intermediality, and Romanticism

His work explores the interplay between perception, time, and narrative across literature and philosophy. The Habilitation project Anfangen, Aufhören, Weitermachen: Vom Geschichtenerzählen examines storytelling structures in historical and contemporary contexts.

Recent publications analyze Romantic temporalities, intermedial relationships between literature and music, and the invention of World Literature through translation theory. Peer-reviewed articles span journals like Weimarer Beiträge, Monatshefte, and Narrative.
