معرفی
Christian Graff is an HDR lecturer at the University of Grenoble Alpes, affiliated with the Laboratory of Psychology and Neuro-Cognition (LPNC). His research spans multiple disciplines including neurosciences, psychophysique, and ethology, with a focus on perception-action loops, animal behavior, sensory substitution, and rhythms. He serves as a disability reference teacher for psychology students at the university.
Graff's research interests center on irregular rhythms, intermodal sensory perception, and human/cognitive systems. His work explores how rhythmic patterns in biological systems inform our understanding of temporal processing, from electric fish signaling to human finger-tapping and eye blinking. He investigates sensory substitution systems to assist visually impaired individuals in spatial navigation and has developed innovative approaches to multimodal guidance using sound metaphors.
His publication trends reveal a progression from neuroethology of electric fish to psychophysics and evolutionary psychology. Recent work focuses on sensory substitution for spatial awareness, virtual reality embodiment, and rhythmology. His research bridges biology, psychology, and technology, examining how humans interact with space through multiple sensory channels and how these insights can inform assistive technologies.
Graff collaborates extensively across disciplines through projects like SAM-guide (Spatial Awareness from Multimodal guidance), CDP Boot (Cross-disciplinary Program for robot interaction), and FISHIF (Fish In Silico with Hydrodynamic and Social Interaction Forces). He participates in interdisciplinary collectives including CARMEN (Consciousness, Attention, Representation Mentale) and the "Rhythmologies" and "Humanibots" research axes at MSH-Alpes.
His laboratory work involves the Babylab and focuses on perception-action systems, with current projects exploring voice control of flying robots, sensory substitution devices, and the metalinguistic function of spontaneous eye blinking. His team combines experimental approaches from ethology, psychophysics, and virtual reality to investigate how humans and animals perceive and interact with space across different temporal scales.
