Christian Gasser

Christian Gasser is a Professor of Biomechanics at KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Adjunct Professor at the University of Southern Denmark. He holds a Master of Mechanical Engineering (1997) and a PhD in Civil Engineering (2001) from Graz University of Technology, Austria, and an Habilitation in Solid Mechanics/Biomechanics (2008) from KTH. His research focuses on developing numerical methods and biomechanical models to address clinical and biotechnical challenges, particularly in cardiovascular diseases. He is a leading expert in computational biomechanics, with over 100 peer-reviewed publications and an h-index of 52. His work has been integrated into commercial software like ANSYS and ABAQUS, and he co-founded ARTEC Diagnosis AB and VASCOPS GmbH. Awards include the Humboldt Research Award (2022) and designation as the 2024 Odqvist Lecturer.

Key achievements include the development of A4clinicsRE software for clinical biomechanical simulations and pioneering work on biomechanical indices (e.g., peak wall rupture index) to predict abdominal aortic aneurysm rupture. His research bridges fundamental science with clinical impact, emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration with global clinical and technical partners.
