Prof. Christian Freund is a full Professor of Biochemistry at Freie Universität Berlin, leading the Laboratory of Protein Biochemistry. He holds a PhD from the Max-Planck-Institute of Biochemistry and completed postdocs at the University of Zürich and Harvard Medical School. His research focuses on antigen presentation via MHCII molecules, scaffolding proteins in T cells, and palmitoylation dynamics. He received the BMBF-Biofuture Award and collaborates with institutions like the Leibniz-Institut für Molekulare Pharmakologie (FMP) and TRR 186. His lab employs techniques like NMR spectroscopy and protein engineering to study immune and neuronal signaling mechanisms.
Research interests include mechanisms of MHCII peptide loading, DM/DO regulation, and palmitoylation's role in T cell signaling. Recent work highlights clathrin inhibitors (Pitstop 2c/2d) and their impact on endocytosis and viral entry. Collaborations with groups like Prof. Frank Noé (FU Berlin) and Prof. Udo Heinemann (MDC) enhance structural and computational analyses. Open PhD and postdoc positions are available in structural immunology and biochemistry.
