Christian Deindl serves as Associate Professor and Director of the Institute of Sociology at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Technical University of Dortmund. He joined TU Dortmund as an Academic Councillor in November 2020, was promoted to Senior Academic Councillor in 2023, appointed Associate Professor in September 2024, and became Director of the Institute of Sociology in March 2025.
Dr. Deindl completed his academic studies in Cologne, Leuven, and Zurich. His professional journey includes previous academic positions at institutions in Cologne, Zurich, Frankfurt, Dortmund, and Düsseldorf before his current appointment at TU Dortmund.
Dr. Deindl's research program centers on the intersection of family structures, health outcomes, and life course transitions. His work investigates caregiving dynamics across generations, examining how intergenerational relationships shape health trajectories throughout the human lifespan. Through a sociological lens, he analyzes how social structures and cultural contexts influence health behaviors and outcomes at different life stages. His research contributes to understanding the complex relationships between family dynamics, social support networks, and individual well-being across the life course.
As Director of the Institute of Sociology, Dr. Deindl oversees academic programs and research initiatives focused on sociological approaches to understanding contemporary social challenges. His leadership role involves fostering interdisciplinary collaborations and advancing research in family sociology, health sociology, and life course studies.
Dr. Deindl maintains regular engagement with students through his office hours held on Tuesdays from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM in Room 2.443. During semester breaks, he offers office hours on August 26 and September 30 by appointment, demonstrating his commitment to student mentorship and academic guidance.
