معرفی
Christian Dahmann is a Professor of Systems Biology and Genetics at the Institute of Genetics, Dresden University of Technology. His research program investigates the genetic and mechanical basis of epithelial morphogenesis using Drosophila melanogaster as a model organism, focusing on the interplay between molecular regulation and physical forces during development.
His primary research areas include:
- Mechanical forces in epithelial folding and tissue morphogenesis
- Basement membrane elasticity and pre-stress dynamics
- Compartment boundary formation and cell sorting mechanisms
- Extracellular matrix assembly and cytoskeletal organization
- Planar cell polarity establishment
Professor Dahmann maintains an active research portfolio supported by continuous DFG funding, currently leading two major projects on mechanical pre-stress in basement membranes and force regulation during epithelial folding. He contributes to the Excellence Cluster 'Physics of Life' (EXC 2068), reflecting his interdisciplinary approach to living matter dynamics.
Key recognitions:
- Heisenberg Fellowship from the German Research Foundation (DFG)
His past research has generated foundational insights through completed projects on genome-wide gene expression in imaginal discs, Fat2 cadherin function in planar polarity, and mechanical tension at compartment boundaries. Professor Dahmann's work bridges quantitative biophysics, genetic analysis, and developmental biology to unravel how mechanical and molecular processes coordinate during tissue formation.
