Christian Armbrüster

Univ.-Prof. Dr. Christian Armbrüster is a Professor of Civil Law, Commercial and Corporate Law, Private Insurance Law and International Private Law at the Department of Law, Free University of Berlin. Appointed to FU Berlin in 2004, he previously held a position at the newly founded Bucerius Law School in Hamburg starting in 2000. He has served in various administrative roles at FU Berlin including Chair of the Central Election Committee (2004-2006), Vice Dean for Research (2013-2015), and Dean of the Law Department (2015-2017).

His educational background includes:

Professor Armbrüster's research focuses on Civil Law (particularly the General Part of the German Civil Code), Private Insurance Law, Corporate Law, and International Private Law. His work in Private Insurance Law spans insurance contract law, supervision law, company law, conflict of laws in insurance contracts, and European insurance law. He has a particular interest in the private law systems of EU member states (especially France and Italy) as well as the United Kingdom and Switzerland. His research has significant practical implications, as private insurance law is described as "an exciting, practical and diverse area of law" that enables compensation for accident victims, reconstruction of burned-down buildings, retirement provision, and facilitates innovative product development for companies.

Professor Armbrüster maintains an active international presence with numerous visiting professorships and teaching stays at prestigious institutions worldwide. He has served as a judge at Kammergericht (2007-2013), is an ARIAS Europe certified arbitration chairman, and acts as an expert witness in legal proceedings before German, English, and US courts. He also serves as an expert in legislative procedures in the German Bundestag and is involved with the Jürgen Prölss Prize committee at FU Berlin.

His teaching responsibilities include courses in Civil Law, Commercial and Corporate Law, Private Insurance Law, and International Private Law. He has developed extensive educational materials including the "Fallsammlung zum Gesellschaftsrecht" (Case Collection for Corporate Law) and the Netjura E-Learning platform with comprehensive exam preparation resources for students.
