Christel Koop is a Professor of Political Economy at King's College London, based in the Department of Political Economy within the School of Politics & Economics. She holds a BA and MPhil in Political Science from Leiden University, and a PhD in Political and Social Sciences from the European University Institute. Her research focuses on regulation, central banking, and economic policy-making, emphasizing the independence and accountability of technocratic decision-making. She leads the international 'Reconnecting citizens to the administrative state?' project (2020–2023) and supervises multiple PhD students in areas like digital markets and regulatory innovation.
Teaching includes undergraduate and postgraduate modules on policy-making and economic regulation. She actively contributes to research groups such as Public Policy and Regulation (PPR), Quantitative Political Economy, and European Politics and Society. Her work bridges comparative politics and public policy, addressing governance challenges in the EU and beyond.
