Christa Salamandra

Christa Salamandra is Professor of Anthropology at Lehman College and the Graduate Center, City University of New York. She specializes in Arabic-language media with particular focus on Syrian television drama production. She earned her PhD from the University of Oxford and has held visiting positions at institutions including Lebanese American University, American University of Sharjah, and Lund University.

Her research examines:

• Media representations during conflict
• Cultural preservation in diaspora communities
• Anthropology of visual media
• War documentation through artistic expression

She directs the Center for Human Rights and Peace Studies and organized the 2018 conference 'Artist as Witness: Cultural Production, Conflict, and Human Rights in Syria'.
