Christa Hestekin is a Professor and Graduate Studies Director in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Arkansas, holding the Ansel and Virginia Condray Professorship. She is affiliated with the College of Engineering and actively leads research in protein aggregation and biofuel production.
- Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Northwestern University (2006)
- B.S. in Chemical Engineering, University of Kentucky (2000)
Her research focuses on early-stage protein aggregation linked to diseases like Alzheimer's and diabetes, utilizing microchannel electrophoresis to study oligomeric species and fluorescent labeling. Additionally, she investigates algal biofuel properties, examining how growth, processing, and storage conditions affect bioethanol, biobutanol, and biodiesel yields.
Her publications highlight advancements in algal biofuel optimization, protein aggregation analysis, and microchip electrophoresis techniques for mutation detection. These works span interdisciplinary fields including biotechnology, disease mechanisms, and analytical methods.
- University of Arkansas Honors College Distinguished Faculty Award (2012)
Dr. Hestekin serves as President of the AES Electrophoresis Society and co-faculty advisor for Alpha Chi Sigma. Her lab integrates chemical engineering principles to address challenges in biomedical and energy sectors.
