Chris Ward

Chris Ward is an Associate Professor in the Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology within the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta.

His academic expertise focuses on transfusion medicine and immunohematology. His research interests include:

Dr. Ward teaches a comprehensive curriculum in transfusion science, including Advanced Immunohematology, Immunohematology Techniques, and Blood Supply and Distribution courses for graduate students in the Specialization in Transfusion Science program. His teaching approach combines theoretical instruction with substantial clinical components.

He oversees extensive clinical education through practicum courses where students gain hands-on experience in blood banks, hospitals, and cell therapy laboratories. For Medical Laboratory Science students, he teaches both theoretical Transfusion Science courses and Professional Practice components, ensuring students develop the necessary technical and reflective skills for laboratory medicine careers.

Dr. Ward maintains regular office hours at the Dianne and Irving Kipnes Health Research Institute and is actively teaching courses scheduled through Winter 2026, demonstrating his ongoing commitment to medical education at the University of Alberta.
