Prof Chris Storey is a Professor of Marketing (Strategy and Marketing) at the University of Sussex Business School since July 2015. He previously held roles at Cass Business School, King's College London, and Manchester Business School. His research focuses on innovation in service industries, buyer-seller relationships, and the strategic use of technology in marketing. He holds a PhD from the University of Manchester (1994) and serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Product Innovation Management.
His work emphasizes service innovation as a competitive advantage, with key contributions on customer involvement in service design and the impact of social media on organizational performance. Notable publications include a highly cited 1998 European Journal of Marketing paper on augmented service offerings, which has over 600 citations.
Teaching and supervision activities include courses on new product strategy, service design, and design-thinking. He has supervised doctoral research on topics like social media in SME innovation and blockchain technology acceptance. Professional activities include external examining roles and course development for MSc Marketing and Consumer Psychology programs.
