Professor Chris P. Gale is a Clinical Professor and Honorary Consultant Cardiologist at the University of Leeds. He serves as Co-Director of the Leeds Institute for Data Analytics and leads research at the MRC Medical Bioinformatics Centre within the Leeds Institute for Cardiovascular and Metabolic Medicine. His expertise spans clinical cardiology, cardiovascular medicine, and the use of population-based data in observational and randomized studies.
Education: MB;BS (medicine), BSc (Hons) Psychology, PhD (molecular biology), MEd (Clinical Education), MSc (Biostatistics and Epidemiology). He completed NIHR Academic Clinical Lectureships and holds fellowships from the Royal College of Physicians and European Society of Cardiology.
Research focuses on cardiovascular quality of care and outcomes, utilizing electronic health records for trial design and survivorship analysis. He leads international registries like the ESC NSTEMI registry and chairs the ESC EURObservational Research Programme oversight committee.
Awards include NIHR and European research grants, with over 160 peer-reviewed publications in top journals (e.g., JAMA, Lancet, BMJ). He is Deputy Editor of the European Heart Journal Quality of Care and Clinical Outcomes.
Current roles include membership in the National Heart Failure Audit Academic Group and the NICE Indicator Advisory Group. He supervises postgraduate researchers exploring atrial fibrillation and frailty using health records.
