Dr. Chris Nash is a Senior Lecturer in Music Technology at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol), specializing in software development for audio, sound, and music. He leads the computing pathway for BSc(Hons) Music Technology courses and holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge (2011) focusing on systems for music production and creativity. His work bridges academic research and industry practice, emphasizing end-user technologies and real-world applications.
Education: BEng (York), MPhil (Trinity College Dublin), PhD (Cambridge).
Research interests include music composition, user experience design, HCI, algorithmic music systems, and digital creativity. He collaborates with institutions like Point Blank Music School, Huddersfield University, and industry partners such as Steinberg/Yamaha, BBC, and startups like JukeDeck. His projects include the award-winning reViSiT DAW plugin and Manhattan, a hybrid DAW/music programming language.
Notable collaborations and projects include BBC Music Day 2018, where live crowd movements influenced generative music. His technical expertise spans C++, DSP, VR/spatial audio, and MIR (Music Information Retrieval).
