Chris Millward is a Lecturer in Art and Design at the University of Chester's Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, holding a 0.5 full-time equivalent position on a fixed-term contract since 2024. He teaches across Product Design, Fine Art, Interior Design, and Graphic Design programs while serving as Module Leader for Product Design Level 4 and for the Creative Arts pathway in the Centre for Foundation Studies.

Millward's research explores the intersection of traditional sculptural practices with digital technologies, focusing on how XR, 3D scanning, and virtual environments transform material production and artistic capabilities. His work examines how different production methods affect the maker's physical relationship with materials, particularly investigating the boundaries between analogue and digital workshop practices. He has conducted QR projects examining extended reality applications in digital artifact production and integrating 3D printing with traditional metal casting processes.

As a practicing sculptor with over 20 years of workshop experience, Millward maintains technical expertise in woodwork, metal fabrication, and foundry casting. His teaching approach integrates his sculptural practice with emerging technologies, particularly incorporating virtual environments like Second Life as teaching tools.
