Chris Mills is a Senior Lecturer in Biomechanics at the School of Sport, Health and Exercise Science, University of Portsmouth. He holds roles including Associate Head (Academic) and PhD Supervisor. Previously, he was a Lecturer at Exeter University and earned his PhD from Loughborough University in 2005.
His research focuses on musculoskeletal modeling and biomechanics, particularly investigating breast motion dynamics, spinal loading, and interactions between humans and sports environments. Key interests include the effects of compression garments, sports surface impacts, and biomechanical adaptations in challenging conditions like motorsport driving.
Recent work emphasizes breast biomechanics, including support garment efficacy, hormonal influences on breast volume, and spinal implications of breast motion during physical activities. He collaborates with sports organizations such as British Gymnastics and UK Athletics, and industry partners for funded research projects.
Dr. Mills has supervised six current PhD students and acted as an external examiner for numerous theses. His research outputs span biomechanical modeling, sensor integration, and human factors analysis, with a focus on translating findings into practical applications for athlete performance and safety.
