Melissa Jones is a Lecturer in Sport & Exercise Science at Bangor University's School of Psychology and Sport Science, specializing in biomechanics and breast health research. She completed her PhD at the University of Portsmouth (2024), MSc at Loughborough University (2012), and BSc at the University of Exeter (2011).
- PhD: Computer Simulation of Lumbar Spine Biomechanics Influenced by Breast Mass
- MSc: Sports Biomechanics
- BSc: Human Biosciences
Her research focuses on female biomechanics, particularly how breast dynamics affect spinal loading and overall athletic performance. She investigates breast health education and sports bra preferences through collaborations with elite athletes, including Olympic teams and professional rugby players.
Recent publications (2020-2025) demonstrate trends in breast motion modeling, spinal biomechanics, and sports bra interventions. Key collaborations include the University of Portsmouth's Research Group in Breast Health and the Institute of Applied Human Physiology at Bangor University.
- Best Applied Work Award (2027)
- Consultancy for LPGA/LET players at 2025 Scottish Open
- Contributions to Women's U18 Six Nations Rugby Player Welfare Project (2024)
- Member of Women in Sport and Exercise Academic Network (WiSEAN)
She actively participates in academic conferences (e.g., International Society of Biomechanics in Sports) and contributes to global breast health initiatives through research partnerships.
