Dr. Chris Meckstroth is Associate Professor in the History of Political Thought at the University of Cambridge Faculty of History, specializing in 19th-20th century German and French political philosophy. His research examines democratic legitimacy, historical change, and international political theory through engagements with Kant, Hegel, and Marx.
Education includes a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago and A.B. from Harvard, with previous positions at Harvard's Social Studies program.
Research explores democratic paradoxes in historical context, international political thought from Westphalia to Vienna, and Marx's political economy. His book 'The Struggle for Democracy' develops a historical theory of democratic legitimacy through critical engagement with German idealism.
Teaching covers political thought since 1700, Kantian philosophy, and states systems. Supervisions available for topics in modern political thought, democratic theory, and revolutionary movements.
