Chris MacKenzie is a Sessional Instructor in the Department of Sociology within the Faculty of Arts at the University of British Columbia. He has been consistently teaching undergraduate sociology courses from 2018 through 2024 across multiple terms and course levels.
His research interests span Social movements, Political theory, Cultural theory, Deviance and social control, Sociology of art, Visual sociology, and Political sociology. MacKenzie takes a reflective approach to sociology as indicated by his 'Navigational plaits' description that questions how social phenomena affect individuals and society broadly.
MacKenzie has taught multiple sections of SOCI 101 (Social Interaction and Culture), SOCI 102 (Inequality and Social Change), and SOCI 250 (Crime and Society) across summer and winter terms. His teaching pattern shows consistent involvement with the department's undergraduate instruction over multiple academic years.
He is the author of 'Pro-Family Politics and Fringe Parties in Canada' published by UBC Press, contributing to political sociology literature. His work bridges academic theory with practical social concerns, particularly in political sociology and social movements.
As a Sessional Instructor, MacKenzie plays an important role in delivering undergraduate sociology education at UBC, contributing to the department's teaching mission while maintaining active research interests across multiple sociological subfields.
