Dr. Chris Kosmidis is a Clinical Senior Lecturer in Infectious Diseases at the University of Manchester, affiliated with the Division of Infection, Immunity and Respiratory Medicine. He holds an honorary consultant position at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. His academic journey includes an MD from Semmelweis University (1996) and a PhD in Gram-negative bacterial resistance from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (2006). Previously, he held roles as a consultant in Greece and fellowships in the UK and USA, focusing on infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance.
His research focuses on fungal infections, particularly chronic pulmonary aspergillosis (CPA). He leads projects funded by the MRC, exploring point-of-care diagnostics and interferon gamma immunotherapy for CPA. Key contributions include the I-CHROME Study in Indonesia and clinical trials evaluating antifungal agents. He is a principal investigator in the Manchester Fungal Infection Group (MFIG), advancing understanding of fungal pathogenesis and host immunity.
