Chris K. Elvidge is a Research Associate and Contract Instructor at Carleton University's Department of Biology (Faculty of Science). He holds a B.Sc. from McGill University and a Ph.D. from Concordia University. His research focuses on behavioral and aquatic ecology in changing systems, particularly animal personalities, predator-prey dynamics, fisheries-induced evolution, and ecotoxicology. He also serves as a Research Scientist at the Eel Passage Research Center and Associate Editor for Marine and Freshwater Behaviour and Physiology.
Elvidge's work integrates sensory and physiological ecology to address anthropogenic stressors and develop conservation technologies. His research spans freshwater and marine systems, with recent emphases on oil sands pollution impacts, fish migration behavior, and the ecological effects of shoreline infrastructure. He collaborates on projects involving species such as sockeye salmon, American eels, and queen conch.
His publications (2023–2025) reflect themes of behavioral plasticity under environmental change, chemical communication disruptions, and the physiological trade-offs in migratory species. His research bridges basic ecological understanding with applied conservation strategies, emphasizing the role of behavior in species survival.
Elvidge's current affiliations include teaching roles at Carleton and research leadership in eel passage technologies. His work contributes to both theoretical advancements and practical solutions for biodiversity conservation in human-impacted ecosystems.
