Chris Jones

Chris Jones is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Culture + Community and a member of the Jake Kerr Faculty of Graduate Studies at Emily Carr University of Art + Design. His work bridges art practice and theory, focusing on the intersections of photography, performance, and cultural critique. He previously directed the Jake Kerr Faculty of Graduate Studies and pioneered the Low Residency Masters program in 2010.

Research interests center on the epistemological role of imagery in art, exploring how technical media like photography engage with time and space through performative lectures and multimedia narratives. His exhibitions and installations have addressed themes such as non-human language, mediated experience, and synesthetic perception.

Teaching responsibilities include courses on art theory, cultural studies, and photography's societal impact. Recent courses include 'Theorizing Culture' and 'Photography, Society + Culture.' Selected works like Picture Time (2017) and River Time (2011) exemplify his experimental approach to blending visual art with performative elements.
