Chris Jay Hoofnagle is a Professor of Law in Residence and Visiting Senior Research Fellow at the University of California, Berkeley School of Law. He teaches cybersecurity, programming for lawyers, and torts, and is affiliated with the Simons Institute for the Theory of Computing and the Center for Security in Politics. Formerly, he directed the Center for Long Term Cybersecurity.
Research Interests: Hoofnagle specializes in privacy law, consumer protection, and regulatory policy, with a focus on the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and digital governance. His work bridges legal frameworks and technological challenges, addressing issues like data privacy, cybersecurity, and the ethical implications of emerging technologies such as quantum computing.
Key Publications: His books include Law and Policy for the Quantum Age (2022) and Federal Trade Commission Privacy Law and Policy (2016), both published by Cambridge University Press. Notable articles include analyses of consumer behavior in digital markets and critiques of privacy assessment methodologies.
