Chris Ingersol is an Associate Professor of Biology at Mount Vernon Nazarene University (MVNU), affiliated with the School of Natural and Social Sciences. He has held this position since August 1986. His academic journey includes a B.S. in Biology (1979) from Southern Nazarene University and an M.S. in Biology (1982) from Southwest Missouri State University, along with continuing education at The Ohio State University.
Dr. Ingersol's research focuses on herpetology, particularly studies on the hellbender (Cryptobranchus alleganiensis) and dragonflies/damselflies through his involvement with the Ohio Odonata Survey. He has contributed to peer-reviewed publications on amphibian reproductive biology and ecology, and authored educational lab manuals for biology courses.
He is actively involved in professional organizations including the Ohio Biological Survey Advisory Board (since 1992), Ohio Academy of Science, and National Science Teachers Association. His teaching career spans over three decades, including roles as a science teacher at Oklahoma City Public Schools and adjunct instructor at multiple institutions.
Awardees include the Sea Grant Scholarship (1990) and recognition for academic excellence during his undergraduate years. His work bridges field research, conservation efforts, and science education, reflecting a commitment to both academic rigor and community engagement.
