Chris Holden is Professor of Social and Public Policy at the University of York. With a BA (Politics), MA (Political Economy), and PhD from the University of Oxford, he previously taught at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and Durham University.
Research examines corporate influence on social policy, global health governance, trade agreements, and tobacco/alcohol industry strategies. Major projects analyze tobacco companies' use of trade law to constrain health policies globally.
Publications critically assess policy paradigms in tobacco/alcohol control, Brexit's health implications, and social protection financing. Recent work proposes a Global Fund for Social Protection modeled on health/climate funds.
Professional activities include editorship of the Journal of Social Policy and membership on the Global Social Policy editorial board.
