University of Southamptonمعرفی
Dr Chris Duckworth is a Senior Enterprise Fellow at the IT Innovation Centre within the School of Electronics and Computer Science at the University of Southampton. He also holds honorary positions at the University Hospitals Southampton Foundation Trust and is part of the Digital Health and Biomedical Engineering Research Group. His work focuses on translating AI research into clinical and real-world applications, particularly in healthcare and chronic disease management. He leads the PROCED-DST project to improve clinical discharge processes and collaborates on interdisciplinary research programs at the intersection of technology and society.
Chris' research expertise includes explainable machine learning (XAI), human-centered AI design, and chronic disease management. His current projects address challenges in diabetes and COPD through co-design approaches involving patients, clinicians, and families. He has pioneered computational notebooks as tools for stakeholder engagement in AI model development.
Prior to his shift to digital health in 2021, Chris conducted astrophysics research on galactic kinematics and the cosmic web, publishing in journals like Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society. He currently serves as a reviewer for journals including Nature Communications, BMJ Open Quality, and Computer.
Chris' recent work emphasizes AI transparency and clinical decision support systems, with projects applying machine learning to electronic health records and imaging data to predict patient trajectories and reduce discharge delays. His interdisciplinary approach bridges technical innovation with user-centered design principles to ensure equitable technology adoption.
