Dr. Chris Bézu is a glaciologist within the Mountain Hydrology group at Utrecht University. His research focuses on glacier retreat, proglacial lake formation, and iceberg calving dynamics in Bhutan's Lunana region, combining numerical modeling with field observations to assess environmental risks like flooding and water availability shifts. He also contributes to broader Himalayan glacier change projections and Antarctic ice shelf studies.
Education:
- Bachelor's in Pure Mathematics, Simon Fraser University (Canada)
- Master's in Coastal and Marine Management, University Center of the Westfjords (Iceland)
- PhD in Geological Sciences, University of Idaho (USA)
Chris's broader research interests include frontal ablation mechanisms at tidewater and lake-terminating glaciers, emphasizing calving diversity and ice mass balance under climate change. Prior to Utrecht, he developed a numerical framework for Antarctic ice shelves at the University of Washington as a postdoctoral researcher.
