His research explores three main areas: religious/spiritual development in childhood, religiosity in emerging adulthood, and the intersection of spirituality with body image and eating behavior. He has directed the Bucknell in Denmark summer program since 2011, comparing parenting and child development across U.S. and Danish cultures through surveys and interviews with mothers.
Recent publications highlight cross-cultural dynamics in religious development (2017), relational spirituality in emerging adults (2016), and spiritual-body connections (2016). His work combines quantitative and qualitative methods, emphasizing empirical validation of religion's role in psychological adjustment.
Students have co-authored over 50 conference papers with him since 2000, with notable contributions in studies on parental control, attachment to God, and spiritual identity formation. His editorial roles include Associate Editor of Psychology of Religion and Spirituality and board membership in journals like Emerging Adulthood and Journal of Family Psychology.
