Chon A. Noriega is a Professor at the University of California, Los Angeles, affiliated with the School of Theater, Film and Television. He serves as Director of the UCLA Chicano Studies Research Center and Adjunct Curator at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, leading initiatives in media preservation, cultural research, and public engagement.
- Education: PhD and MA in Modern Thought and Literature from Stanford University; BA in English from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
His research focuses on Chicano cinema, avant-garde media, and intersections of racial, gender, and sexual representation in alternative and national cinemas. He also investigates media access for underrepresented groups and public policy impacts on cultural institutions.
Recent publications include L.A. Xicano (2011) and co-authored works on Chicano art and media. His scientific awards include the Getty Postdoctoral Fellowship, Rockefeller Foundation Fellowship, and the Rosenfield Prize for community partnership.
- Professional Roles: Editor of Aztlan: A Journal of Chicano Studies (since 1996), co-founder of the National Association of Latino Independent Producers (NALIP), and curator of film programs and exhibitions.
