Chin-An Tan is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Wayne State University's College of Engineering. He holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from UC Berkeley, an MS in Aeronautics from Caltech, and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from UC Berkeley. His academic appointments include serving as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.
Research interests focus on integrating dynamics, controls, and computer science in:
- Structural dynamics and vibration control systems
- Advanced vehicle mobility solutions and autonomous parking systems
- Intelligent robotic systems including SLAM applications
- Smart suspension systems with road preview technology
- Piezoelectric vibration energy harvesting
- Nanomaterials for energy storage applications

Leads the Dynamics and Intelligent Systems Laboratory with active projects in vehicle dynamics, autonomous navigation, and energy harvesting systems. Collaborates with Jiangsu University researchers and industry partners on mobility solutions.
