Professor Lang earned his BSc, MBBS, and MD from the University of Dundee, focusing on neurohormones and sodium homeostasis. His research expertise lies in cardio-metabolic diseases, with a multidisciplinary approach integrating pathophysiology, pharmacogenetics, and translational medicine. He leads a cardiovascular research laboratory focused on cardiac and vasomotor regulation, biomarker development, and novel therapeutic strategies.
His recent publications highlight cutting-edge work in AI-based prediction of heart failure from retinal images, genetic risk profiling in aortic stenosis, neutrophil extracellular traps in HFpEF, and clinical trials such as REACH-HFpEF and CARDIATEAM. These studies reflect a strong trend toward precision medicine, digital health, and population-level informatics in cardiovascular care.

Professor Lang has supervised 25 MD/PhD students and serves as an external examiner across multiple UK and Southeast Asian universities. He is Chief Investigator for major trials including MET-REMODEL, RECEDE, REFORM, and REACH-HFpEF, and leads the MRC UK-Malaysia PRIME project. His work has directly influenced clinical guidelines and FDA decisions, with two 4-star REF 2014 impact cases and recognition in REF 2021. He is also the UK National Coordinator for international trials such as COMMANDER-HF, ARISE, and SELECT.
He leads or contributes to active research projects in multimorbidity in aging cancer patients, diabetes phenotyping (iDiabetes), and diabetic cardiomyopathy (CARDIATEAM), often in collaboration with international consortia and funded by BHF, MRC, NIHR, and EU programs.
