Chie Sakakibara is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography and the Environment at the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, Syracuse University, with additional affiliation in Native American and Indigenous Studies. Her work bridges geographical scholarship and Indigenous knowledge systems.

Research Interests: Dr. Sakakibara's scholarship critically examines Indigenous geographies through environmental humanities and humanistic geography frameworks, emphasizing decolonial approaches to land, sovereignty, and spatial justice. Her Arctic studies focus explores climate change impacts on Indigenous communities, while her teaching in Native American & Indigenous Geographies centers on place-based knowledge and resistance. This interdisciplinary work intersects cultural geography, political ecology, and critical Indigenous studies, reflecting deep engagement with both theoretical and community-centered methodologies.
