Abel R. Gomez

Abel R. Gomez, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Religion at Texas Christian University (TCU), affiliated with the AddRan College of Liberal Arts. His research focuses on Native American and Indigenous Religions, Decolonial and Indigenous Feminisms, and Two-Spirit Critique. He holds a Ph.D. in Religion from Syracuse University (2021), an M.Phil. from Syracuse (2018), an MA in Religious Studies from the University of Missouri (2015), and a BA in Philosophy and Religion from San Francisco State University (2013).

His work interrogates the intersections of Indigenous spiritualities with globalization, place, and colonial histories. Key projects include studies on California missions, Indigenous land resurgence, and Two-Spirit identities. Recent publications explore themes such as 'place-based' Indigenous religions, the ethics of religion scholarship on occupied lands, and critiques of colonial narratives in mission histories.

Gomez’s research emphasizes decolonial methodologies and community-engaged scholarship. He contributes to interdisciplinary dialogues in religious studies, Indigenous studies, and critical theory.
