Chidi Oguamanam is Full Professor at the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law and holds the University Research Chair in Sustainable Bio-Innovation, Indigenous Knowledge Systems and Global Knowledge Governance. His interdisciplinary research examines intellectual property law, biodiversity governance, and the interface between Western science and Indigenous knowledge systems.
As founding co-director of Open African Innovation Research (OpenAIR) and director of Access and Benefit Sharing Canada (ABS Canada), he advances equitable knowledge governance frameworks. Professor Oguamanam served as a key negotiator for the 2024 WIPO Treaty on Intellectual Property, Genetic Resources, and Associated Traditional Knowledge.
He was inducted into the Royal Society of Canada's College of New Scholars and received the SSHRC Impact Award for partnership achievements with OpenAIR.
