Chiara Pavesi is a Postgraduate Researcher and Graduate Teaching Fellow in Law at the Liverpool Law School, University of Liverpool. She holds a Master’s in Law from Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (Milan, Italy) and an LLM in International Law from the University of Nottingham. Her research focuses on International Law of the Sea, Maritime Security, and International Public Law, particularly the regulation of privately contracted armed security personnel (PCASP) on merchant ships. She is a member of the International Law and Human Rights Unit (ILHRU) at Liverpool and coordinates the ASCOMARE Yearbook on the Law of the Sea. Key projects include her role in the COST Action Blue Rights working group on 'Protection of Life at Sea.'

Research Interests: Explores legal frameworks governing maritime security, non-state actors in maritime spaces, and jurisdictional challenges under UNCLOS. Her doctoral thesis examines state jurisdiction over vessels carrying armed security providers for self-defense.
Publications include analyses on submarine cables and Italy’s exclusive economic zone, UNCLOS judicial responses to non-state actors, and maritime security podcasts. She actively contributes to maritime law observatories and international legal initiatives.
