Chiara Fumagalli

Chiara Fumagalli is a Full Professor of Economics and Dean of the Undergraduate School at Bocconi University. She holds a Laurea in Economics from Bocconi University (1994) and a PhD in Economics from Universitat Pompeu Fabra (2000). Her research focuses on applied microeconomics, industrial organization, and competition policy. Key areas include exclusionary practices, business group dynamics, internal capital and labor markets, and antitrust enforcement.

She is a Research Fellow at CEPR and affiliated with Baffi Center, IGIER, and CSEF. Since 2014, she has been a member of the European Commission’s Economic Advisory Group on Competition Policy. She co-edits the Journal of Industrial Economics and serves as Associate Editor of the International Journal of Industrial Organization. Her work bridges academic research with policy, notably her 2018 book on exclusionary practices with Cambridge University Press.

Research highlights include analyzing internal labor markets in business groups as resilience mechanisms and contributing to antitrust frameworks for mergers involving potential competitors. She has advised on EU competition policy and published in top journals like the American Economic Review and Journal of Financial Economics.
