Dr. Chiara Fabbri is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow at King’s College London since October 2018. She is affiliated with the Statistical Genetics Unit, led by Professor Cathryn Lewis, within the School of Mental Health & Psychological Sciences and the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience. Her research focuses on identifying genetic factors influencing treatment-resistant depression through exome sequencing.
Chiara Fabbri earned her medical degree from Bologna University (Italy), followed by clinical training in psychiatry. She completed her PhD at Maastricht University, Department of Psychiatry and Neuropsychology, with a thesis titled Pharmacogenomics of antidepressant drugs: perspectives for the personalization of treatment in depression.
Her research interests include pharmacogenomics, clinical-demographic modulators of psychotropic medication response, personalized treatment in psychiatry, and the genetics of mood disorders. Her ESTREA project innovatively explores rare genetic variants’ role in treatment resistance using whole exome sequencing and clinical treatment data.
Teaching responsibilities include the Genes, Environment & Development in Psychology & Psychiatry MSc and a module on Affective disorders and pharmacogenetics. She holds the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship and is a member of the Pharmacogenomics Research Network (PGRN) and the International Society of Psychiatric Genetics (ISPG).
As part of the Statistical Genetics Unit, she collaborates with 20 researchers to apply statistical methods for identifying genetic components of complex disorders, advancing precision medicine in psychiatry.
