Chia-Liang (Leo) Dai is an Associate Professor in the Department of Teaching and Learning at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). His research focuses on health behavior change, health education program evaluation, and mental health interventions, with a particular emphasis on mind-body practices like yoga and mindfulness meditation. He has extensive experience in counseling and education, including roles as an elementary school teacher, sports coach, school psychologist, and military mental health counselor in Taiwan.
Dr. Dai holds a Ph.D. in Health Promotion and Education from the University of Cincinnati, with a concentration in Counselor Education and Supervision. He is a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) and serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of School Health and Journal of Global Education and Research.
His research explores topics such as obesity prevention, cultural influences on health behaviors, and the efficacy of yoga in managing conditions like osteoarthritis and digestive disorders. Recent work applies the Multi-Theory Model (MTM) to predict behaviors like colorectal cancer screening adherence, drowsy driving cessation, and vaccination acceptance. Collaborations include partnerships with the Greater Youth Sports Association to provide after-school sports programs for low-income children in Southern Nevada.
Dr. Dai’s publications span journals in public health, education, and counseling, with a focus on translating research into actionable interventions for schools and communities.
