Chi-Hwa Wang is a Professor leading the Particle Technology, Drug Delivery, and Gasification Technology group at the National University of Singapore. His research focuses on granular material dynamics, pneumatic conveying, biomass gasification, and drug delivery systems. He has pioneered studies on electrical capacitance tomography (ECT) for flow monitoring, granular flow instabilities, and waste-to-energy conversion technologies. His work integrates experimental, numerical, and industrial applications, addressing challenges in energy sustainability and pharmaceutical delivery.
Research interests span multiple disciplines including granular material rheology, CFD modeling of gasification processes, and development of controlled release drug carriers. He has supervised notable postgraduate researchers such as Dr. Wenbo Zhan and Dr. Vishnu Sunil. His group collaborates with industry partners like Leong Siew Weng Engineering Pte Ltd for scalable gasification systems. Current projects include solar-enhanced gasification and 3D drug delivery simulations for tumor targeting.
Notable contributions include the development of hybrid AD-gasification systems for waste treatment, electrostatic effects in pneumatic conveying, and attrition modeling in rotary valves. His group's gasifiers demonstrate clean energy production from biomass and sludge, with applications in electricity generation and valuable byproduct recovery.
