Dr. Cheryl Li is an Associate Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department at the Tagliatela College of Engineering, University of New Haven. She also serves as the Graduate (MSME) Program Coordinator, PhD Program Coordinator for the TCoE China Program, and China Program Coordinator. With dual PhDs in Mechanical Engineering (National University of Singapore) and Educational Psychology (University of Connecticut), her expertise spans mechatronics, robotics, control systems, and engineering education. Her research focuses on robotics, AI applications, and pedagogical strategies to enhance student engagement in STEM education.
Dr. Li has taught courses such as Robotics and Automation (ME 451), System Engineering Design Process (SE 488), and Project Planning and Development (EAS109). She has extensive experience in international collaboration, including coordinating joint degree programs and supervising international students. Her work bridges engineering and education, emphasizing adaptive learning approaches and entrepreneurial mindset development.
Her publications span technical advancements in robotics (e.g., cobot systems, 3D scanning) and educational innovations (e.g., e-learning modules, entrepreneurial mindset assessments). Recent research highlights include marker-less hand tracking for robotic arms and natural language processing in collaborative robots. Dr. Li’s contributions to engineering education include adaptive curricula for non-traditional students and integrated e-learning frameworks to foster entrepreneurship.
Her international academic journey includes roles at institutions in Australia, Singapore, and the U.S., reflecting her commitment to globalizing engineering education and research.
