Cheryl Bodnar, Ph.D., is a Professor in the Experiential Engineering Education (ExEEd) department at the Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering, Rowan University. Her academic focus lies in advancing pedagogical innovation, disrupting inequalities in engineering education, and equipping students for success through game-based learning and entrepreneurship integration. She holds a Ph.D. and B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Calgary, with specialization in Biomedical Engineering.
Her research is funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the Kern Family Foundation, emphasizing active learning techniques and their impact on student motivation and outcomes. Notable awards include the Silver Medal for Game Designed for Higher Education (2022), Rowan University President’s Award (2021), and the William H. Corcoran Award (2020).
Publications span game-based learning efficacy, entrepreneurial mindset frameworks, and process safety education. Recent works highlight concept mapping for assessment, multi-institutional studies on student perceptions, and curriculum redesign for diversity and inclusion.
Dr. Bodnar actively collaborates on initiatives like the ELATES Fellowship (2020) and KEEN Rising Star Award, driving innovation in engineering education. Her work bridges theory and practice, addressing critical gaps in safety training and professional agency among early-career educators.
