Cheryl Forchuk is a Distinguished University Professor at the Arthur Labatt Family School of Nursing at Western University, holding the Beryl and Richard Ivey Research Chair in Aging, Mental Health, Rehabilitation, and Recovery. She is also a Scientist and Assistant Director at Lawson Health Research Institute. Dr. Forchuk’s research focuses on mental health care models, homelessness interventions, therapeutic relationships, and the integration of technology in healthcare. She holds advanced degrees: PhD from Wayne State University, MScN from the University of Toronto, and BScN and BA in Psychology from the University of Windsor.
Her work emphasizes systems-level solutions for vulnerable populations, including veterans and individuals experiencing homelessness. Current projects include evaluating supported housing programs, analyzing opioid-related risks among unhoused individuals, and exploring harm reduction strategies in hospital settings. She leads interdisciplinary teams addressing ethical challenges in healthcare delivery and mental health stigma reduction.
Dr. Forchuk’s grants and awards reflect her leadership in health equity research. She has co-designed community integration models like the Peer to Community (P2C) initiative and contributed to the Transitional Discharge Model for psychiatric patients. Her research often employs ethnographic and mixed-methods approaches, with a focus on marginalized groups’ lived experiences.
Awards include the Western University Distinguished University Professor title and the Ivey Research Chair. Her work bridges academic research with actionable policies, aiming to improve healthcare access and reduce systemic inequities.
