Dr. Cheryl Allsop is a Senior Lecturer in Criminology at the University of South Wales, affiliated with the Faculty of Life Sciences and Education. She leads the Criminology, Policing and Security Research and Innovation Group and is an ORCID-registered researcher (0000-0002-8447-809X). Her research focuses on cold case investigations, missing persons, and vulnerable victims, with notable contributions including the book Cold Case Reviews: DNA, Detective Work and Unsolved Major Crimes. She advises the Metropolitan Police and chairs Locate International's board.
Education: PhD in Criminology (Cardiff University, 2013), MSc in Socio-Legal Studies, LLB (Hons), and BSc in Psychology.
Research interests include homicide investigations, police practices, and forensic criminology. Recent work emphasizes vulnerabilities in missing persons cases and no-body murders. She co-led the Missing from Care Framework evaluation and presented findings at international conferences.
Awards include the British Society of Criminology Teaching Award (2021) and Welsh Crucible Fellowship (2015). She supervises student research through the University of South Wales Cold Case Unit, collaborating with families of missing persons and law enforcement.
Key activities include advising the UK Missing People Expert Reference Group and organizing the 6th International Conference on Missing Children and Adults (2023).
