Cheryl A Mitchell

Cheryl A Mitchell is an Associate Professor in the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Texas at Arlington. She holds a BA in Art History/Classics (2007) from UT Arlington and an M.Litt. in History of Art and Art-World Practice (2010) from the University of Glasgow via Christie's Education. Mitchell is a Collections Specialist (CSPC) and founder of the Museum Studies minor (2017, launched 2022), which has produced graduates employed by institutions like Heritage Auctions and the Edith O'Donnell Institute.

Mitchell's research focuses on the documentation and digitization of university art collections, cross-disciplinary curatorial methodologies, Medieval Art Historical Studies (particularly female warrior archetypes and funerary rites), and service-learning in museum education. She has pioneered the UTA Database & Inventory Project and launched satellite exhibitions across campus to enhance engagement with the UT Arlington Fine Art Collections (UTAFACs).

Her scientific honors include multiple Celebration of Faculty Creative Works (FCW) Honoree recognitions (2015-2018) and teaching/service awards. Mitchell oversees internships with UTAFACs and partners like UTA Libraries Special Collections, Center for African American Studies, and Anthropology/Archaeology departments.
