Chenqing Song is an Associate Professor at Binghamton University, affiliated with the Department of Asian and Asian American Studies, The Linguistics Program, and the Translation Research and Instruction Program (TRIP). Her research focuses on phonology, historical linguistics, and tones in ancient Chinese poetry. She holds a PhD and MA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Her work includes analyzing Old Chinese stop codas and tonal prosody in Yongming-style poetry, with publications in top journals and co-authorship of Tonal Prosody in Yongming Style Poems (2015). She also explores Chinese language pedagogy, emphasizing tonal acquisition and cultural integration in teaching. She directs the "Sounds of China" STARTALK program and holds leadership roles in the International Association of Chinese Linguistics (IACL).
Her awards include the Young Scholar Award of IACL (2006) and the Mantaro J. Hashimoto Award for Chinese Historical Phonology (2006). She collaborates with ACTFL and contributes to bilingual theater arts initiatives through TRIP.
