Chengxuan Qiu is a Senior Lecturer (Docent) and Deputy Division Head of the Aging Research Center (ARC) at Karolinska Institutet. His research focuses on the interplay of cardiovascular and psychosocial factors in brain aging, dementia prevention, and cognitive resilience. He leads the MIND-China project, studying dementia risk reduction strategies in rural China, and co-leads the Confucius Hometown Aging Project (CHAP). Qiu holds a PhD in Neuroepidemiology from Karolinska Institutet and has extensive collaborations with institutions in China and internationally.
Key affiliations include the Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) and the Center for Alzheimer’s Research (CAR). His educational background includes a medical degree from Shandong University and postdoctoral training at NIH’s National Institute on Aging. He teaches Geriatric Epidemiology at KI and has authored over 200 peer-reviewed articles.
Research themes include vascular brain aging, cognitive reserve mechanisms, and multimorbidity’s impact on dementia. Recent work highlights links between cardiometabolic health, sleep patterns, and neurodegenerative biomarkers. Qiu’s group participates in global initiatives like the World-Wide FINGERS Network for dementia prevention strategies.
